Amor
te has ido!

STYLISH SOUTH BEACH CATS SEEK REPRODUCTIVE ASSISTANCE.
Deep in the heart of South Beach lives a colony of 25 cool cats
and kittens. Many need basic medical care and all need to be
spayed/neutered. Sadly, no one is available to help the cats,
so a caring individual contacted FSC for assistance. FSC went
ahead and neutered 8 cats, but we need donations to care for
the rest. Please sponsor one of these cats so they don’t
continue having unwanted babies. For only $25.00, each cat receives
spay or neuter surgery, ear tip and rabies shot. At
$25.00 a cat, compassion is cheap. Please help
us raise the $425.00 we need to help these cats! We also accept
Cat
Network certificates for this effort. Please send your money
today so we can prevent more cats from being born.

Surfside
Town Official makes a mockery of starving animals at community
event.
Residents were outraged at this
year's family Halloween party as Surfside official Tim Will
paraded around the event dressed as a starving, homeless cat
– wearing a hobo hat, cat makeup and holding a can
that read, "Will work for meow mix". Some parents
left in disgust. Others have called for Will's resignation.
Said one homeowner, "Behavior such as this should be of
great concern to all Surfside residents, cat lovers
or not."

Winter hurricane "Snowflake"
approaches Surfside.
Hurricane
of bad press prompts untimely pet evacuation plan.
In
an transparent attempt to feign concern for animals, the Town
of Surfside included an article about emergency pet evacuation
in last January's Surfside Town Gazette newsletter –
six months before and after hurricane season. "Don't
forget your pet when preparing a family disaster plan," the
Gazette reminds residents. Starving the cats on the beach, however,
is apparently still just fine – no matter what season it
is.
It's
been awhile, so we thought we'd bring back the site pretty
much as you last saw it. Much has changed in Surfside – for the
better. Surfside is
a kinder, gentler Town. Especially if you're a cat. All of the
bad people got kicked out of office, including their fearless leader.
He didn't heed the advice of ex-Miami Beach mayor Seymour Gelber...
"Don't mess with cat people. They'll sink in their claws and they
won't let go..." He's right. We'll defend animals
at any cost.
We're also pleased to say that friends of the bad
people were shut down once again in this week's election.
So most of what you read here is old news. Thank goodness.
We're still doing our thing – TNR. It works. Always
has.
What
does the Town of Surfside have against helping innocent animals?
Plenty.
Not
only does Surfside refuse to compensate Friends of Surfside
Cats for spaying and neutering from the summer of 2003 to present
(a humane act of public service provided for Surfside residents), the
Town, with Town Attorney Stephen Cypen, has elected to sue Friends
of Surfside Cats, a non-profit corporation, for more than $7,000.00.
This
amount corresponds to each spay/neuter the town reimbursed us for
at a cost of $25.00 each. The apparent goal
is to destroy our organization financially so we cannot help any
more animals. What does this say about Eduardo Rodriguez,
Mayor Tim Will and Town Attorney Stephen Cypen?Rodriguez
claims he tries to settle with us. Yet Rodriguez has not made one
phone call, written one letter, or initiated a single meeting to
try to work out this very simple and basic issue.
They hope to force us to spend money on
attorney’s fees that
could be used to help animals. It’s heart-breaking
to think of all of the animals who will not be spayed or neutered,
who won’t be rescued, and who won’t receive any care
so that Mr. Ginsburg of Adorno & Yoss, P.A. can reap the attorney’s
fees that are paid for by our taxes.
Please help us to spread
this disturbing news far and wide.
We
want Surfside to be known for kindness and reason, not animal cruelty
and needless persecution of homeless domestic animals who need our
help. Please
consider adopting a homeless cat today. We have many wonderful cats
on the beach that would make great pets.
It’s sad that we have to fight to help homeless animals, but
fight we will. The truth will come out about this travesty soon
enough.

Town
of Surfside: "Don't feed cats, don't starve cats."
On
the 18th of March, almost two months after the actual hearing and
two days after the Surfside elections, Special Master Carolyn Howard
rendered her decision in the matter of 11 citations issued
by the Town of Surfside against three cat feeders. These feeders
were fined for providing food for 32 Surfside beach cats –
a $100.00 mandatory ticket per infraction. The
court raised this fine to $250.00 per violation plus $60.00 per
ticket for administrative fees plus prosecuting attorney's
fees.
This decision only confirms that Surfside justice is not
impartial nor does it act with conscience or regard
for expense to Surfside taxpayers. The actual Town
Code, stipulates that anyone who feeds strays is violating the
law. The same Code goes on to say that anyone who abandons an animal
or fails to provide an animal with sustenance is also breaking the
law. more
Surfside
spends $14,731.27 of taxpayer money to prosecute feeders.
The Town of Surfside hired the high powered law firm of Adorno &
Yoss P.A. who billed $14,731.27 of taxpayer dollars between Oct.
28, 2003 & January 26, 2004 to prepare a case against three
people ticketed for feeding cats.
Additional court fees including eight hours of counsel time (a Partner
and an Associate from Adorno & Yoss) along with all associated
anticipated fees in preparing the final argument will be added.
The final figure may be close to $25,000.00. more

Town
employee overcome by marker fumes.
"Highlighter Overdose"
was the diagnosis for a Surfside employee who fainted suddenly last
week while working on The Big Scary Cat Book at Town Hall.
"I had just finished highlighting the word toxoplasmosis
for the 40th time...and that's the last thing I remember,"
said the employee. The book, packed with page after page of useless
misinformation about supposed cat diseases, is now on display for
your reading pleasure at Town Hall. The Big Scary Cat Book
is even highlighted (just the Big Scary Words) should you decide
to read between the lines and realize that there has never been
a single documented case of disease transmission from a cat in Surfside.
Nonetheless, feel free to stop by Town Hall so that all that highlighting
wasn't in vain.
No-feed
law considered humane by Surfside Town Manager.
In a Channel 10 News story about Surfside's cats,
Surfside Town Manager Eduardo Rodriguez alleged, "We want to
find a humane solution to this case," then added the word,"always,”
seemingly forgetting the eleven $100 fines that have been issued
as punishment to those who feed the cats. Moreover,
Friends of Surfside Cats questions the existence of any such law.
